How To Distinguish Bipolar Disorder Behavior

Bipolar Disorder

Bipolar Disorder

Bipolar Disorder – Many people who find themselves suffering from severe mood swings, sudden shifts in activity level, extreme feelings of ecstasy and equally extreme feelings of depression are wondering whether or not such conditions are normal or are manifestations of the most serious ailment called bipolar disorder.

Indeed, bipolar disorder behavior can be quite ambiguous. They can be telling of something that is ingrained in our humanity, or they can be symptoms of an abnormal behavior screaming for treatment.  So how can you tell if what you’re enduring is a bipolar disorder or not?

Bipolar Disorder Simple Test: Is There A Reason?

Usual mood swings, depressions, happiness or tiredness are experienced because they are caused by some factor or another. You may get depressed because someone hurt your feelings, for example. You may feel happy because someone told you something nice. You may lose all your energy because of the efforts you have exerted for a particular task. Regardless of what causes your mood swing, the integral factor is: there is a cause for the same.

Bipolar disorder behavior, on the other hand, is experienced by the patient for no reason whatsoever. It just happens. The subject may be feeling giddy happy one moment, and inconsolably depressed the next. He may feel hyperactive in the morning and completely fatigued by midday. He may be extremely happy during the start of the conversation, and all of a sudden, he’d turn raving mad. And all of these are experienced without reason for their sudden eruption.

So if you’re in the middle of an emotional upheaval that you know will result in misery-filled feelings, as yourself this question: is there a reason for what you’re going through?

If there is a reason for the feelings you’re enduring, then you can stop worrying. It’s normal. It’s the human condition. We feel because we’re alive, after all. We feel pain when we’re poked. We feel joy when someone does for us a good deed. We feel angry when provoked.  It’s a natural cycle.

If there are no reasons for the feelings you’re going through, then chances are, you’re experiencing bipolar disorder behavior. It’s something pathological, and it’s something that will require treatment. You don’t have to do it alone. Many people are willing to help you out. But first, it’s up to you to acknowledge the existence of the problem. You must be the one to take that first step towards a solution.

Anxiety Attack

Anxiety Attack – In order to understand the true meaning of the phrase ‘anxiety attack,’ it is essential to understand the difference between ‘anxiety’ and an ‘anxiety attack.’ Anxiety is a normal emotional state of mind that is caused by a reaction to a stressful situation or a distressing physical condition.

This normal condition takes the form of an aberration when the person continues to experience stress even when the stressful situation or condition is long past or if the person experiences severe anxiety or stress in the absence of any obvious stress causing conditions. it is often difficult to distinguish between a heart attack and an anxiety attack, as the indicators for both are almost similar.

An anxiety attack is generally characterized by many or all of the following symptoms; acute escalating tension, pain in the chest, nausea, lightheadedness, dizziness, sweating and loss of one’s view of one’s ‘self’. the individual is said to be experiencing an anxiety attack when he/she begins experiencing many of these symptoms that become severe as the time passes and generally reach a peak within ten minutes.

Anxiety_Attack_SymptomTypes of Anxiety Attack

Anxiety attacks can be divided into several distinct categories, each with its own characteristics and a few symptoms that are common to all categories. the National Institute of mental health divides Anxiety disorder into six main categories; panic disorder, a sudden anxiety attack that may be caused due to no apparent reason; generalized anxiety disorder that affects the individual on a daily basis i.e. he/she suffers from chronic tension; obsessive-compulsive disorder, a condition in which the individual suffers from an urgent need to engage in certain rituals and activities without any need for the individual to engage in them; social phobia, a condition in which the individual feels overly anxious in everyday social situations; specific phobias, the attacks that are caused by a fear, usually irrational, of something and post-traumatic stress disorder, a condition that follows a traumatic event where the individual has persistent thoughts of the event and feels emotionally traumatized.

Medical researchers have found a number of reasons that are considered the possible causes for attacks. Genetics, drug abuse, environment and personality characteristics are considered the main culprits that induce attacks. however, there may be much more triggers of anxiety attacks that have yet to be found by the medical researchers.

Health

One thing that doctors and health researchers agree about without exception is that daily activity and exercise are important for all people no matter what their ages.

The list of benefits of this is quite long and goes well beyond massive improvements in quality of life. This type of exercise also leads to a fit and toned body shape as well as added muscle strength. In addition, you’ll enjoy greater bone health and fewer signs of aging in the skin. This means you can save a lot of money on anti-aging products for the skin. Plus, there are many more benefits – we’ll discuss some of them below.

As far as we know, there aren’t any magic potions that can instantly transform your body and mind, but the closest thing is getting consistent physical activity and exercise. Health experts and researchers will all confirm this, as there are now numerous studies backing this up.

Increasing your level of activity is almost always beneficial, so it’s recommended to everyone. Your body will start feeling better in many ways when you exercise. If you think you are too old to get started – wrong. It’s been discovered that it’s helpful to start exercising no matter how old you are. Physical activity and exercise are worthwhile for a number of reasons, and below are a number of them.

  • The body has a tendency to guard itself against stress by releasing certain hormones. Your health can be very negatively impacted if you aren’t able to properly manage that stress. Well, exercise is a great way to deal with all that stress and biological effects within your body. When you develop a regular exercise routine in addition to remaining active during your day it will go a long way to keeping stress at bay. This gives your body a much-needed opportunity to relax without the need to handle the stress going on in the background.
  • You can have healthy and strong bones without doing many of the typical exercises people associate with fitness, such as jogging, cycling or speed walking. If you dance on a regular basis, you can also enjoy these benefits. The reason for this is that it’s a type of exercise that’s weight-bearing, like running or jogging. These type of exercises are great for your overall fitness, and especially for the health of your bones. If you’re looking to build your overall strength, as well as increase your bone mass, make sure you do some kind of resistance of strength building exercises. Health experts advise women especially to do this kind of exercise, as decreasing bone mass as they get older leads to various health problems. To make you brain more powerful and more efficient you need to be dedicated to maintaining fitness. In a sense, perhaps you can say it makes you smarter due to more brainpower. Increase your brain performance and have a greater sense of mental clarity. This is all because of the sustained higher levels of blood circulation in your brain.
  • Your brain will work faster due to the increased brain wave activity.
  • Women who exercise regularly are 60% less likely to develop breast cancer. Isn’t that amazing! This concerns two specific hormones that are related to breast cancer. With regular exercise, the production of these specific hormones is reduced lowering the risk for breast cancer at the same time. However, regular exercise can serve to ensure positive results even when production of these hormones is at their highest levels.
  • Regular exercise can help you sleep more soundly, or reduce problems with insomnia. There’s no one simple cause for this beneficial result, but it seems to be an effect that comes from consistently exercising. People sometimes have trouble sleeping due to anxious and stressful feelings, and exercise tends to reduce these. When you exercise frequently, you are more apt to be tired and ready to fall asleep. Pregnant women have reported that a regular exercise program helps them to sleep better, as well. Pregnancy can present a problem when it comes to sleeping, as it can be hard to get comfortable. Men and women of all ages can have a terrific, positive impact on their health, longevity, and overall quality of life by adopting an appropriate exercise routine. For all but the advanced in years, never feel like it is too late for you to do anything. You should take the precaution of getting cleared by your doctor to engage in safe exercise. Once you get started your focus needs to shift toward staying motivated. Seriously, you can just take it easy and slowly build into something impressive. You’ll find that motivation is easier to maintain once the results start rolling in.
  • Now that you’ve discovered (or been reminded of) some important physical activity and exercise benefits, you may want to research on your own and find even more. If you search, you’ll be able to find evidence that shows exercise helps any part of your body you can think of. In addition to the impact on your body, you can get even more far-reaching results, such as your state of mind. When you feel better and are in a better mood, consistently, then people will naturally react toward you in a more positive manner.

To get started getting in shape I recommend exercising at home either through the best elliptical workouts or using any one of the best treadmills on the market.

Social Anxiety Disorder

Written by Onaolapo Adeyemi. Posted in EMDR, mental health

EMDR and Anxiety Disorder

Social anxiety disorder, otherwise know as SAD, also known as social phobia, is the most common anxiety disorder among other types of anxiety disorder.  It is one of the most common psychiatric disorders, with 12% of Americans having experienced it in their lifetime.

social phobia, social anxiety

It is known and labeled by intense fear in one or more social situations, causing considerable distress and impaired the ability to function in at least some parts of daily life.  Most people that go through anxiety attack rarely knows what is going on with them.

A person with social anxiety disorder is afraid that he or she will make mistakes, look bad, and be embarrassed or humiliated in front of others.  Most of these fear must have been triggered during childhood or adolescence stage of developing.  The fear may be made worse by a lack of social skills or experience in social situations.

The anxiety can build into a panic attack.  As a result of the fear, the person endures certain social situations in extreme distress or may avoid them altogether.  In addition, people with social anxiety disorder often suffer “anticipatory” anxiety — the fear of a situation before it even happens — for days or weeks before the event.  It can be really frustrating – coming from someone dealing with a family member suffering from social anxiety.  In many cases, the person is aware that the fear is unreasonable, yet is unable to overcome it.

The Power of Now - How to get rid of your shyness and insecurityPeople with social anxiety disorder or social phobia become very anxious and self-conscious in everyday social situations. They have an intense, persistent, and chronic fear of being watched and judged by others, and of doing things that will embarrass them.  They can worry for days or weeks before a dreaded situation.  This fear may become so severe that it interferes with work, school, and other ordinary activities, and can make it hard to make and keep friends.  Although many people with social phobia realize that their fears about being with people are excessive or unreasonable, they are unable to overcome them on their own.

Social anxiety disorder or social phobia can be limited to one situation (such as talking to people, eating or drinking, or writing on a blackboard in front of others). Or, it may be so broad (such as in generalized social phobia) that the person experiences anxiety around almost everyone other than family members.  See what you can do to stop your social anxiety disorder.

THE CAUSES OF SOCIAL ANXIETY DISORDER

Just like any other anxiety disorder, it may be caused by several things ranging from different factors.  The causes of social anxiety disorder can vary considerably.  When a doctor is trying to determine the causes of a patient’s anxiety attacks, he will assess environmental issues, traits in the person’s personality, the patient’s brain chemistry, any past traumas and the family medical history.   This is pretty much most of what will be done during the emdr session if you choose to go that route.  Firstly, the environmental issues may include poverty, childhood/parental separation, overly strict parents, overly critical parents, excessive family conflicts, fearful parents, anxious parents and a lacking support system.

After the reason has been determined for the anxiety attacks, the doctor will attempt to make a diagnosis. However, if the fifth most common causes are not setting off the anxiety attacks then the doctor will look at these other options:

· Hypoglycemia – can trigger anxiety attacks under certain medical situations

· Thyroid diseases – can trigger anxiety attacks under certain medical situations

The Shyness and Social Anxiety System     Cure for social anxiety

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF SOCIAL ANXIETY DISORDER

Physical symptoms that often occur with social phobia include:

•Blushing

•Difficulty talking

•Nausea

•Profuse sweating

•Trembling
The goal of treatment is to help you function effectively. The success of the treatment usually depends on the severity of the phobia.

Anti-anxiety and antidepressant medications are sometimes used to help relieve the symptoms of phobias. See: Panic Disorder for more information about medications.

Behavioral treatment appears to have long-lasting benefits.

•Cognitive-behavioral therapy helps you understand and change the thoughts that are causing your condition, as well as learn to recognize and replace panic-causing thoughts.

•Systematic desensitization or exposure therapy may be used to treat phobias.  You are asked to relax, then imagine the things that cause the anxiety, working from the least fearful to the most fearful. Gradual exposure to the real-life situation has also been used with success to help people overcome their fears.

•Social skills training may involve social contact in a group therapy situation to practice social skills. Role playing and modeling are techniques used to help you become more comfortable relating to others in a social situation.

Lifestyle changes may help reduce how often the attacks occur.

•Get regular exercise, enough sleep, and regularly scheduled meals.

•Reduce or avoid the use of caffeine, some over-the-counter cold medicines, and other stimulants.
